THU TRần
“Creating art is an act of service not a pursuit of self-interest.”
Trần Thị Thu, known professionally as Thu Trần, is a Vietnamese visual artist whose work flows between painting, installation, and performance art.
Born in 1970 in Thanh Oai, Hà Nội, her practice is rooted in deep emotion, cultural memory, and an enduring spirit of experimentation. She believes that creating art is an act of service—a way to connect, to question, and to give voice to the stories that lie beneath the surface.
Her artistic journey is deeply rooted in installation art, where she skillfully weaves space, material, and emotion into immersive experiences. Silk—delicate, flowing, and rich with tradition—has become her signature medium, often layered with organza, watercolor, acrylic, and welded steel. Through these materials, she transforms memory and landscape into poetic, contemplative spaces that speak to both personal and collective narratives.
Holding a Master’s degree from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, Thu Trần is a member of both the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and the Hoa Binh Literature and Arts Association
